Powdered Gum Rosin in Glass Jar 50g. Powdered gum rosin ethically sourced from India. Hand ground in Australia. Gum rosin is a brittle, crystal like, amber substance. For use in DIY recipes that call for a sticky or gripping ingredient. Packaged in a reusable glass jar with steel screw top lid. 50g.

Features

This powdered gum rosin has been sourced, tried, tested, and hand ground by Ballina Honey - an Australian family-owned business. Ballina Honey sources their gum rosin from the Sumatran Pine Plantation in India. It is food safe and WW (water-white) grade.

How it's made:

  • Firstly, pine resin (the sap from pine trees) is collected and taken to a distillery plant.
  • Here they remove the natural oil, known as turpentine, from the pine resin for export purposes.
  • The turpentine oil is evaporated off the pine resin using a steam distillation method, traditionally done in a copper still.
  • The residue left at the bottom becomes the gum rosin.

Properties:

  • Gum rosin is a brittle, crystal like amber substance.
  • It is often used to make varnishes, sealing wax and various adhesives, due to its sticky and gripping properties.

Uses:

We recommend using gum rosin powder for creating your own DIY food wraps. The ingredient also has several other uses, including;

  • Bowed instruments - adding gum resin to your bow will make the strings easier to grip and will help them vibrate more clearly.
  • Dancers - powdered rosin can be rubbed on the tips and heels of dance shoes to reduce slippage on smooth floors.
  • Gymnasts, rock climbers - athletes rub gum rosin between their hands in order to improve grip.
  • Health and beauty supplies - for making DIY hair and beard wax.
  • Adhesives - as an ingredient.
  • Glues - as an ingredient.
  • Soap - as an ingredient.
  • Sealing wax - as an ingredient.
  • Varnishes - as an ingredient.

    Good for DIY wraps

I purchased this gum to create beeswax wraps, it was a bit fiddly to work worth. It is important to make sure that gum is heated up properly to ensure it is evenly blended with the other ingredients.

    Having trouble with it

I bought this to make beeswax wraps but have had a lot of trouble melting it into the wax, not sure what's going wrong as it just clumps into chunks.
